Derek has been coaching Sun Prairie cross country and track for five years as well as teaching at the elementary level. After running at Fall River High School and UW Oshkosh, he still enjoys running and recently competed in the Chicago Marathon. His favorite memory was how the team came together in the spring 2021 cross country season. When Coach Johnsrud isn't running, teaching and coaching he enjoys traveling, reading and drinking coffee. He is looking forward to developing the identity and culture of Sun Prairie West Cross Country
Megan Nelson - Cross Country Co-Head Coach
After competing as a distance runner in high school and in college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Coach Nelson began coaching cross country and distance track in Sun Prairie in 2014. Coach Nelson strives to inspire student-athletes to be people of character who work hard, be kind, compete, and have fun.
