SP West Family Engagement Guide
Dear SP West Wolf Community,
Sun Prairie West High School is an intentional school community where students, staff, and families feel seen, valued, and heard. We work to: understand our own story and the story of others, identify and eliminate barriers; problem-solve solutions; build relationships; and actively listen to and lift the voices of our students, to create equitable opportunities and outcomes. Our community supports and empowers high expectations for all students and all staff so that all students are college, career, and community-ready.
In order to bring this vision to life we are fully invested in supporting our student success through: rigorous and coherent teaching, disrupting inquiries and a culture of care. We each have a role. Every student. Every parent/caregiver. Every staff member. We collectively will accomplish this through our Theory of Action that brings the vision from ideal to reality. You are an integral piece to this team bringing this vision to life.
Key Contacts:
Parent/Caregiver partnership is essential to a healthy Wolf community and student success. Here you can find: key contacts at West High School and at the District Support Center; resource information related to school fees, Infinite Campus, Student Health, and athletics/activities; and information on various social media websites parents and caregivers can visit to obtain information.
Communication:
Communication is a key component of our partnership to support student success. Our SP West community receives a detailed weekly Newsletter called “The Howl”. The Howl contains important information regarding current events, updates based on student data and adjustments being made to better support students, celebrations from the classroom and student highlights as well as information for our monthly cultural celebrations. You can access past versions of “The Howl” here. We are also focused on increasing classroom-to-home communication through general updates, individual communication, and an equity-focused approach to conferences.
Get Involved
Parent partnership is as essential as students end their educational career as it was in the beginning when students entered. There are multiple volunteer opportunities for parents/caregivers including supporting our monthly plan for joy cultural heritage celebrations, providing food for teachers and staff during staff PD and conferences, and volunteering at different events and in classrooms. If you are interested in volunteering please reach out to Principal JP at jrploeg@sunprairieschools.org. We also welcome ALL parents/caregivers to our monthly Parent/Caregiver Partnership meeting. This is a space for your voice to be heard in person, build community, and innovate for the future of SP West. These take place the 2nd Wednesday of every month at SP West from 6:00-7:00pm.
We are excited to partner with you as we continue to build our SP Wolf Community so EVERY Wolf can thrive.
Yours truly,
Principal JP (Jen Ploeger)
