SP4K Supervisor's Welcome
Welcome to SP4K,
Since 2009 the Sun Prairie School District has been proud to partner with area day-care centers, private schools, and preschool programs to offer 4 year-old-kindergarten. Additionally, there are two 4K classrooms in elementary schools (Creekside and Token Springs). Each of our 4K classrooms is staffed by DPI licensed teachers who are qualified to teach Early Childhood Education.
We Learn Through Play.
We believe in educating the whole child; focusing on the growth of a child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs in order to build a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and well-being. The SP4K program is guided by Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards PDF) and is taught in play-based, child-centered environments that support student growth in a variety of age-appropriate and developmental skill areas. 4-Year-Old Kindergarten does NOT replace 5-Year-Old Kindergarten and is not a “down-sizing” of the 5-Year-Old Kindergarten curriculum.
We Accept and Include All Children.
We believe that all 4-year-old children are entitled to an education that includes high-quality, developmentally appropriate practices, in child-centered and culturally responsive environments. All children, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or physical or cognitive ability are accepted and cared for by adults and peers alike. Team members develop collaborative relationships with families, caregivers, students, and each other to provide the highest quality learning experiences for all children. We believe in providing embedded, inclusive services that include direct instruction, adaptations, and modifications within natural environments, routines, and classroom activities (as featured in this DPI video).
The SP4K teachers and I look forward to working with you and your children this year.
