SP4K Supervisor's Welcome

Welcome to SP4K,

We are so excited to have you as part of our Sun Prairie School District and Sun Prairie 4K community!

In 4K we believe in educating the whole child;  focusing on the growth of a child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs in order to build a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and well-being.  The SP4K program is guided by Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards PDF) and is taught in play-based, child-centered environments that support student growth in a variety of age-appropriate and developmental skill areas.  4-Year-Old Kindergarten does NOT replace 5-Year-Old Kindergarten and is not a “down-sizing” of the 5-Year-Old Kindergarten curriculum.

In 4K we believe that all 4-year-old children are entitled to an education that includes high-quality, developmentally appropriate practices, in child-centered and culturally responsive environments. All children, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or physical or cognitive ability are accepted and cared for by adults and peers alike. Team members develop collaborative relationships with families, caregivers, students, and each other to provide the highest quality learning experiences for all children. We believe in providing embedded, inclusive services that include direct instruction, adaptations, and modifications within natural environments, routines, and classroom activities (as featured in this DPI video).

The SP4K teachers and I look forward to working with you and your children this year.
