SP4K- Early Learning Belief Statement: We believe that 4-year-old children are entitled to an education that includes high-quality, developmentally appropriate practices, child-centered, culturally responsive play-based curriculum.  Recognizing and meeting the unique needs of individuals, families, while partnering with parents, and our community partners. 4-Year-Old Kindergarten does NOT replace 5-Year-Old Kindergarten and is not a “down-sizing” of the 5-Year-Old Kindergarten curriculum.

SP4K- Early Learning Equity Belief Statement: We believe in equitable and inclusive classrooms where all children are provided with opportunities to learn and engage in developmentally appropriate activities. All children, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or physical or cognitive ability are accepted and cared for by adults and peers alike. Team members develop collaborative relationships with families, students, and each other to provide the highest quality learning environment for all children.
We believe in providing embedded-inclusive services that include direct-instruction, adaptations, and modifications within natural environments routines, and classroom activities.

SP4K is available both in elementary schools and community partner sites, giving families flexible options that meet their needs while maintaining the same high standards of instruction and care. This means every child has the same chance to learn, grow, and feel confident before kindergarten begins.

Whether in one of our five elementary schools or in one of our five community partner sites, we provide developmentally appropriate, play-based learning experiences. Play-based learning is central to the 4K experience, allowing children to explore, experiment, and engage with their environment. This approach enhances creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking as well as the development of early literacy and numeracy skills. This approach supports the whole child, ensuring that students enter kindergarten ready to thrive, socially, emotionally, and academically.

Offering 4K through the district, whether in an elementary or community site, ensures that every child, regardless of background or family income, has access, at no cost, to high-quality early education. It levels the playing field, allowing all students to develop the foundational skills that support future academic and social success. Additionally, educators can collaborate across grade levels to create a seamless transition from 4K to kindergarten. Students benefit from consistent expectations, and families experience a smooth, supported entry into the school system.

Research is clear: children who participate in high-quality early learning programs are more likely to succeed in school and beyond. They demonstrate stronger academic performance, better social skills, and higher graduation rates.
