Update on Technology Use in Our Classrooms!

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Welcome to the new school year! As we start this year together, we wanted to share an important update about how we’re using technology in our classrooms. We're introducing two new terms: "Condition Analog" and "Condition Digital." These will help guide our students in knowing when and how to use their devices during school hours.

Condition Analog:

This means that Chromebooks should be put away and not taken out when they enter their learning space. When we’re in "Condition Analog," students are focused on face-to-face learning, listening to announcements, or doing activities that don’t require technology. It’s a great way to ensure they’re fully engaged in what’s happening around them.

Condition Digital:

This is when Chromebooks are used with permission and direction from the teacher. When we’re in "Condition Digital," students will start by checking into their Google Classroom and using their devices for specific learning tasks and lessons.

To start the school year, 6-8 grade student access to YouTube and email for all 6th graders will be restricted.

We believe this approach will help our students balance their screen time and stay more engaged with their learning.

We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing these guidelines at home. A simple reminder about the importance of staying focused in "Condition Analog" and being ready to use technology responsibly in "Condition Digital" can make a big difference.

Additional technology updates:

Students will be provided a school-issued devices on or around the 2nd week of school. Prior to being issued a device, students will learn about safe technology use, and care for the school-issued device - all information found in the Student Handbook. It is important to reinforce the message that while the device is assigned to your student, the device is property of the Sun Prairie Area School District.

As a reminder, you can monitor your student’s technology use on school-issued accounts by signing up for and using the Securly Parent app. Thank you for partnering with us in your student’s education. We’re excited about the year ahead and all the learning opportunities it will bring!

Warm regards,

Curt Mould, Ph.D.
