Autism Acceptance
People with autism are often creative, innovative, and highly talented. But many people are surprised when a famous person admits to being on the autism spectrum. While there may be many challenges accompanying a diagnosis, there is still room for success and achievement. Famous people like Dan Akroyd of Ghost Busters and Elon Musk have said they fall on the autism spectrum.

Military Children
Since the 1970s, military families have grown so much that military children now outnumber actual U.S. troops. Military children and families are important to service.
According to the Department of Defense, the number will only grow. Active-duty service members are having kids younger and more often, as the average age of a military child is five years old.

Belize Penny War Update:
8B has a dramatic lead with 1701 points while the teachers are second with 717 points. 7 Co Nexx took a big hit dropping from -295 to -3165! Total money raised so far is $122.42. Nice job Panthers Keep it going! Reminder if we get to $500 we have a donor that has generously agreed to match it!

Hmong Heritage
Before the 1960ss, the Hmong lived in small villages located in the mountainous areas in the central and northern part of Laos. For many decades, they were able to live peacefully by raising livestock and doing agricultural farming to support their families. They were independent and enjoyed the freedom that they came to seek.

After our 1st day of the penny war we have an update for you!
Leading the way is house 8B with a total of 1,060 points!
2nd place is the teachers with 923 points and the final team in positive point totals is house 8C with 305 points.
Teams that have been sabotaged already and are in the negative are as follows:
4th place: 8A: -205 points
5th place: 7A: -229 points
6th place: 7C: -295 points
7th place: 6B: -515 points
And the house that has been sabotaged the most so far is 6A with a total of -930 points.

Autism Acceptance
Saida M. is a woman with Autism who lives in California. She is an advocate for people with Autism. When asked why she thinks it is important to share her story, she said, “As a woman who has autism, I have faced lots of challenges due to me being a female in the community. I use my voice to help bring change to action. I also use my advocacy and activism work to help the new generation of girls growing up on the autism spectrum, and I also love helping the women on the spectrum as well.”

Military Children
For years, the media have been referring to the military as a "family business." They call it that because military children are not only twice as likely to join the military when they become adults, but also because as of 2016, 80% of troops who joined the military between 2012 and 2013 came from a family with at least one military-connected family member.

This week we contnue honoring The Day of (No) Silence. This year, we are celebrating the day of (NO) silence by speaking out to raise awareness and give LBTQIA+ people their voice and power back.
One way that you can show your support is joining us with our dress up days.
Today is matching day.
Tomorrow will be honoring the Day of (No) Silence. You can show your pride or allyship by wearing a colorful outfit or getting a rainbow sticker from your SP30 teacher.

Hmong Heritage
Hmong people have a long history dating back about 5,000 years. The term Hmong is often translated as meaning “free” or “free people.” Hmong people had no written language in the early years. Therefore, folktales were developed during this time and have been orally recited ever since, passing from one generation to the next.

This week we are honoring The Day of (No) Silence. Each year students across the country take a day-long vow of silence to symbolically represent the silencing of LGBTQIA+ students.

Arab-American Month Fact
Celebrating the rich and diverse culture and contributions of the diverse population of Arab Americans, National Arab American Heritage Month has been observed during the month of April since 2017.
An estimated 3.7 million Americans have Arab roots, according to the Arab American Institute, with ancestries traced to 22 countries in the Middle East and North Africa, including Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Morocco, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and others.

Autism Acceptance
April is also recognized as Autism Acceptance month. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is associated with differences in communication, learning, and behavior, though it can look different from person to person. People with ASD will have a wide range of strengths, abilities, needs, and challenges.

Military Children
We also celebrate military children during the month of April. There are more than 1.6 million military children who face many challenges and unique experiences as a result of their parents' service.
While military members serve around the world, we often forget the challenges faced by their children. Military families move on average every two to three years, impacting military children through changing schools and support networks.

Hmong Heritage Fact:
April was chosen as Hmong Heritage Month in commemoration of the first Hmong family arrival in Marathon County in April 1976, Tong Xeng Thao and his family.
As political refugees from the Vietnam War, the Hmong sought a new life in the United States. They were resettled in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and other states by church organizations. Approximately 50,000 Hmong Americans now live in many communities across Wisconsin.
