Principal Welcome

Greetings Northside Community,

We are a 4K-5th grade elementary school with over 400 students from a variety of cultural backgrounds with so many unique identities. Our amazing scholars show pride in their school and community by becoming community builders and living into scholarly behaviors. Guiding and supporting our Nighthawks along their elementary academic journey are 60+ compassionate and dedicated adults who make it their mission that every child (and especially our children who have been historically underserved by school systems) feels a sense of belonging, engagement, and confidence to learn at high levels in order to reach their potential and beyond. This means we work to develop not only well-rounded students but caring and empathetic global citizens.

At Northside, we prioritize social-emotional learning as necessary skill development that then allows students the capacity to grow their academic skills. Our Nighthawks learn how to articulate how they are feeling so that they can access tools to help them get their minds and bodies ready for learning. Mistakes are expected and accepted in our community. We teach and learn ways of behaving just as we do reading or math. When students make a choice that creates harm for others or the environment, we use a restorative approach where students take ownership in repairing the harm caused. This serves our students not just in the classroom, but in all aspects of life as they grow up.

Northside uses a science-based approach to teaching reading and writing. Our staff are moving all our scholars toward mastery of grade level standards through whole group and differentiated small group instruction. We know that students- and really all people- thrive when they have a voice and choice in what and how they are learning, so goal setting is something we strongly believe in, keeping our students at the very center of everything we do.

The Northside Community is such a special place and group of people. It truly takes a village to raise a child, and we both need and appreciate your partnership in helping us raise up our Nighthawks to unimaginable heights. If you have any interest in volunteering to work with students academically, as a mentor, or to donate supplies for our students and staff, please don’t hesitate to contact our office at 608-834-7102.

Here’s to all the incredible possibilities ahead!
