Doug Maughan - Head Boys and Girls Track Coach
Doug Maughan began coaching track & field in 2002. In 2006, he became the head girls coach and then both the girls and boys programs combined in 2012. Coach Maughan credits hard-working athletes, supportive parents, and dedicated coaches as the reason SPTF has established itself as a competitive and well-respected program. SPTF constantly has well over 200 student-athletes competing each spring and has a large number of alumni.competing at the collegiate level.
Joel Block - Pole Vault Coach
Coach Block is entering his 16th season as a Track and Field coach. In taking over as pole vault coach for Sun Prairie boys and girls teams he has coached the girls school record holder (Ashley O'Connell and Natalie Pfann 11'6") and Big 8 boys and girls conference champions. Prior to this he as the head track and field coach at River Valley HS for 9 seasons. While at River Valley, Coach Block was responsible for coaching both the boys and girls pole vault school record holders an a State Champion (Scott Liegel, 09) along with several conference champions. Coach Block has also been a speaker at the WISTCA clinic and is a national staff member for the UCS Reno Pole Vault Summit annually.
Matt Boberg - High Jump / Sprints Coach
Sparta High School graduate 2003 - 3 sport athlete - Football, Basketball, Track & Field
Matt is a Family and Consumer Science Teacher at Prairie View Middle School and lives in Madison, WI. His family consists of wife- Jenna, daughter- Kallie, and dogs- Brooks and Richey.
Matt has been a coach for 15 years and has been coaching in Sun Prairie since 2012. He is a big believer in the multi-sport athlete and demonstrates that in his multi-sport coaching as well as work in the summer strength and conditioning program. He is the Head Freshman Football coach, 8th grade boys and 7th grade girls basketball coach (with many previous years at the Varsity level) and also coaches Varsity Track & Field- specifically sprints/relays and high jump.
Coaching to Matt means building relationships, creating lifelong memories and helping students grow in and out of competition while they become better athletes.
Evan Broyles - Throws Coach
Evan Broyles is a Sun Prairie High School Alum (class of 2012). During all four years of high school, Evan was a three sport athlete (football, wrestling, and track). After graduating from SPHS, Evan went on to study at St. Norbert College in DePere, WI from 2012-2017. Evan participated in football and threw on the SNC's track team. It is Evan's first year as an assistant coach with Sun Prairie High School. He is very passionate about the throws and believes that sound and fundamental technique is the difference between an adequate thrower and a phenomenal thrower.
Ryan Ewing - Long & Triple Jumps Coach
Ryan Ewing has been an educator since 2007 and a coach since 2008. In his time as a coach, Ryan has coached his jumpers to 3 school records and has numerous athletes scattered throughout Sun Prairie's all-time accomplishments. His love for the sport led him to create a website dedicated to the jumps that get hits from numerous countries on a daily basis. Paul Frank - Assistant Coach
Paul has been coaching cross country, track, and soccer in one capacity or another since 1990. Coach Frank has been lucky enough to work with some outstanding coaches over that time and has been a part of many championship teams at SPHS. Coach Frank believes that success comes in many different forms and can be attributed to the strong relationships that athletes, parents, and coaches form. Coach Frank also believes that the pillars of trust, accountability, balance, and togetherness are an important part of any championship program. The support Coach Frank has received from his family has been an important part of this great journey. Thank you Amy, Makayla, Tommy, and Jonah for always being there for me.
Sara Jackson - Long Sprints Coach
Coach Jackson is entering her 18th year of coaching track and field and has enjoyed coaching athletes from the club level to post-collegiate. Excited and thankful to enter her 5th year here at Sun Prairie, Coach Jackson previously coached in Nebraska at Lincoln North Star HS where she was able to have great successes at the State level and enjoyed speaking on her beloved sport of track and field and being involved in the USATF organization. Sara's love of track and field started young and it took her to college at the University of NE - Lincoln as a student-athlete. As part of the SPTF staff, Sara is ecstatic to work with this group of talented coaches and athletes and ready to watch more success happen in our sport and to have young adults find the same love for track and field.
Megan Nelson - Distance Coach
After competing as a distance runner in high school and in college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Coach Nelson began coaching cross country and distance track in Sun Prairie in 2014. Coach Nelson strives to inspire student-athletes to be people of character who work hard, be kind, compete, and have fun.

As a student at Sun Prairie, I participated on the Cardinal football team ('86-'88), basketball team (87-'88), and the track team ('86-'89). Won back-to-back WIAA State titles in the 110 HH ('88-'89), WIAA State runner-up in the 300 IM hurdles ('88).
