In person Instructional Model 2021-2022 School Year

In-Person instruction with short-term access to at-home learning

Students attend school in-person, 5 days a week. Students stay at home and access concurrent teaching only when there is an individual or classroom quarantine.

Elementary (Grades K-5):
  • ​​Whole-class live instruction access will be provided for morning meetings, literacy and math
Secondary (Grades 6-12):
  • The teacher team will determine the concurrent class schedule.

Virtual Instructional Option for 2021-2022 School Year

Full Time Virtual

Students do not attend school in-person. Students access learning at home from a fully virtual teacher for a semester or the school year.

Elementary (Grades K-5):
  • Mix of synchronous (2.5-3 hrs per day) and asynchronous (2.5-3 hrs per day)  
  • Learning activities accessed through Seesaw / Google Classroom using district curriculum.
Middle School (Grades 6-7):
  • Fully virtual offering provided by in-district staff.
  • Courses will be taught by SPASD educators. 
  • There will be access to elective encore content (designed by SPASD Educators).
Upper Middle School & High School (Grades 8-12):
  • Almost all instruction is asynchronous; there is no scheduled class time. Teachers will have scheduled office hours and/or small group support times.
  • Courses are provided primarily through JEDI Virtual learning Network (designed for fully virtual learning). 
  • All courses are taught by teachers in the state of WI.

Instructional Model Drivers for 2021-22 Instructional Design:

Elementary (Grades K-5):
  • We will offer a fully virtual option for families who have safety concerns about in-person instruction. 
  • Offering two models (in-person and fully virtual) allows for focused design of instruction in each model that is more sustainable and supports high-quality instruction. 
  • It is important to maintain learning communities throughout the semester so that educators are able to build community and relationships in meaningful ways that engage all learners; therefore, model changes are only allowed at the semester. 
  • We will provide instruction and classroom connection for students who are quarantined or experiencing health symptoms
Middle School (Grades 6-7):
  • A fully virtual option is developmentally appropriate for some middle school learners who have the level of independence needed for fully virtual learning.
  • It is important to maintain learning communities throughout the semester so that educators are able to build community and relationships in meaningful ways that engage all learners at their home schools.
Upper Middle School & High School (Grades 8-12):
  • Developmentally, a fully virtual option is appropriate for some high school learners who have the level of independence needed for fully virtual learning. 
  • It is important for learning communities and relationships to be maintained throughout the semester so that educators are able to build community in meaningful ways that engage all learners.
