Substitute Opportunities

You are eligible to become a substitute teacher if you have an Associate's Degree or higher, and complete the 3 step process listed below.

STEP 1:

Apply through this posting on Frontline. Your application will be reviewed, and a follow up email will be sent to verify your past employment and references. Once that is complete, you will receive an email explaining your next steps in the hiring process, which will include the new hire paperwork that will need to be filled out.  You will then be added to our sub pool and shown how the Absence Management software works to help you pick up sub assignments.

STEP 2:

In an effort to increase the available substitute teacher pool here in the Sun Prairie Area School District, we have started our own DPI approved Substitute Teaching Training Program.  This program meets the DPI mandated training requirement to obtain your 3 year Substitute Teacher License. You will still need an Associate’s Degree or higher, but do not have to complete a state approved Educator preparation program.

The training consists of about 8 hours of video instruction and then questions from an experienced teacher and substitute.

STEP 3:

Upon completion of the course, you will need to apply for your three year substitute permit license through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction website.

If you have a high school diploma, we have positions that you are eligible to substitute for. Special Education Assistant substitutes, Instructional Assistant substitutes and Clerical/Secretarial substitutes work hard every day providing critical services for our students.

What is the Incentive Program?

Substitute teachers and support staff will receive a monthly $100 payment when they have completed 5 days in a substitute position for the Sun Prairie Area School District from the first day of a month to the last day of the month. If the substitute staff completes 5 days in a substitute position in school and/or position with an increased need (can be concurrent with the overall 5 days described above, or can be a separate 5 days) the substitute will receive another monthly payment of $100.

Who Can Participate in the Incentive Program?

The Incentive Program is available to any substitute teacher or substitute support staff working within the District in day-to-day substitute positions at high-need sites or in high-need positions.

Note: This program is focused on day-to-day substitute positions and does not provide the extra incentive to long-term substitute teachers as a long-term substitute already receives a higher rate of pay due to their long-term status.

How is Payment and Tracking Handled?

Payment for substitutes is a monthly payment. At the beginning of each month, Human Resources analyzes the completed days of substitute positions from that month, and if a substitute qualifies for the incentive, they will receive their incentive pay at the last pay period of the following month.

Experienced Teacher Substitute Rate

When a substitute teacher reaches 160 hours (20 full days), the substitute teacher will begin receiving the experienced daily rate of $168/day.
