The third speaker in the Parents as Partners in Equity Speaker Series spoke this past Wednesday. Rodney Prunty, President/CEO of United Way of Central New Mexico, presented on Impact Driven Decision Making in Equity.
Our elementary and middle school’s parent groups support the staff, students, and families at their school. Each SCO is a non-profit organization that functions independently of the school and the district. Any parent or guardian of a child can join. Each SCO helps to build close relationships between home and school by providing opportunities for parents to be involved in the school community, supporting the needs of our teachers and staff, and promoting school spirit and pride.
The Parent Leadership Council (PLC) is made up of members from each of our schools School Community Organizations (SCO's). This group meets monthly to collaborate on ideas and share learning.
The Vision of the Parent Leadership Council
We stand as a cohesive community of collaborators and key communicators for our district and school sites. We serve as advocates for kids, parents and teachers while creating the best opportunities for all students.
The Mission of the Parent Leadership Council is to:
Share ideas/collaborate with one another,
Share fundraising efforts when able,
Share speakers and resources,
Have a representative from each parent group present at meetings,
Focus on things we can control/change
Help to build district wide community
Provide cohesive messaging to schools/parents
Think of itself as one unit and not just their own school
Serve as key communicators throughout the District
