Bullying Prevention & Reporting

The Sun Prairie Area School District is committed to providing a safe positive learning environment for all students. The expectation is that everyone will treat each other with respect and consideration. Actions such as bullying, cyber-bullying, or hazing creates an atmosphere of fear and intimidation, detracts from the safe environment necessary for student learning, and may lead to more serious violence. Therefore, all types of bullying and hazing are prohibited.

What is Bullying?

"Bullying" is deliberate or intentional behavior using words or actions, intended to cause fear, intimidation, or harm. Bullying may be repeated behavior and involves an imbalance of power. It includes, but is not necessarily limited to such behaviors as stalking, cyberbullying, intimidating, menacing, coercing, name-calling, taunting, making threats, and hazing.

Bullying behavior can be:
     1. Physical (e.g. assault, hitting or punching, kicking, theft, threatening behavior)
     2. Verbal (e.g. threatening or intimidating language, teasing or name-calling, racist remarks)
     3. Indirect/Psychological  (e.g. spreading cruel rumors, manipulating social relationships, intimidation, social exclusion, and cyberbullying)

The Sun Prairie Area School District takes allegations of bullying seriously and will respond promptly to complaints and allegations of bullying.  Please see (District Policy JBA)

If you believe your child has either been bullied or witnessed bullying you can do the following:

  • Fill out the Bullying Report Form and return it to your child's school. You can also request a Bullying Report Form from your child's principal, student services staff member or teacher. If you need help filling out this form, please contact your school principal or counselor.

  • Submit a tip to the District's Electronic Safety Tip Line. While all tips will be investigated, keep in mind this process can only be as thorough as the information provided.
