Student Services

Student Services is comprised of School Counselors, School Social Workers, and School Psychologists. The Student Services team works collaboratively to best help students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career services, as well as providing responsive services.

If you would like to request a change to your second semester classes, please complete this form. Counselors will review each request and determine if it meets the schedule change criteria outlined in our policy. If the change can be accommodated it will be updated in the student's infinite campus.

Sun Prairie High School counselors are committed to maximizing the success of all students through academic, personal/social, and career development. To best become familiar with our students and their needs, students are assigned to counselors by their last names and keep the same counselor throughout high school. If you would like to make an appointment with your counselor, please stop by the Student Services office and schedule a time before or after school or during study hall. Lunch hour appointments are also available if necessary.

Psychologists

School psychologists help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students that strengthen connections between home and school.
School psychologists work to find the best solution for each student and situation; they use different strategies to address student needs and to improve school and district-wide support systems.
School psychologists work with students individually and in groups. They also work with students with disabilities or with special talents, address abuse of drugs and other substances, and help to prevent and manage crises.
School psychologists promote tolerance, understanding, and appreciation of diversity within the school community.
School psychologists help children, parents, and educators understand and resolve concerns related to mental health, time management, study skills, sexuality, suicidal ideation, decision making, etc. Helping students make personal and social gains is a top priority for school psychologists.

Social Workers

School Social Workers

Are employed by the school district to enhance the academic mission by providing services which strengthen home/school/community partnerships
Actively address barriers within the child, home, school, and community that interfere with student achievement
Serve as catalysts to bring people together and to create an environment that is conducive to effective problem solving and learning
Practice includes: assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, individual and group counseling, consultation, program development, and coordination of school and community services.

School Social Work Services

Helping students to:

cope in times of crisis,
access mental health services,
become resilient, successful learners,
and gain personal and social competencies.

Working with administrators to:

Implement effective prevention programs and policies which address:

school attendance,
alcohol and other drug abuse,
teen pregnancy,
violence,
suicide and sudden death,
child abuse and neglect,
and school safety.

2. Ensure compliance with special education laws

Supporting parents to:

effectively participate in their child's education,
understand their child's developmental and educational needs,
access school and community resources,
understand special education services,
and strengthen parenting skills.

Linking schools and communities to:

coordinate the delivery of educational and mental health services,
and develop resources to adequately meet the needs of students and families.

Assisting educators to:

work effectively with parents,
discover new resources,
participate in the special education process,
understand family, cultural, and community factors affecting students,
and meet education outcomes for students of diverse backgrounds.
