COMMUNITY EARLY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Here is a list of early learning opportunities in the Sun Prairie area. This list is provided for information purposes only and does not imply a district endorsement of all programs. Not all programs have connections to the Sun Prairie Area School District. This list is not a comprehensive list of all options, but is updated regularly.

4-Year-Old Kindergarten (free)

  • For children who are 4 years old on or before September 1st
  • Half day programs held at several school district and community sites

Birth to 3 Program

  • For children from birth until their 3rd birthday who are suspected of having delays in development

Community Schools Preschool Playgroups (free)

  • For children ages 3-4 who are not yet 4K eligible
  • Parents drop off their children
  • Children do not need to be toilet trained
  • Meets for a few hours a couple days per week for 8 weeks
  • Currently held at CH Bird Elementary, Creekside Elementary, and Our Savior's Lutheran Church

Free Books

  • Free book mailed to the child every month from birth until age 5
  • Collaboration between Madison Reading Project and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
  • SIGN UP HERE

Head Start (free)

  • Free program for 3-and-4-year-olds whose families meet income requirements
  • Includes transportation, breakfast, and lunch

Home-Based Head Start Program (free)

  • Weekly home visit with transportation assistance
  • Child must be 3 years old to start

Library Storytime (free)

  • Geared toward ages 2 1/2-5, but all ages are welcome

Parks & Recreation Playgroups (small fee)

  • For children ages 3-4 who are not yet 4K eligible
  • Parents drop off their children
  • Meets for a few hours a couple days per week
  • Currently held at Token Springs Elementary and Meadow View Elementary

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PLAYGROUPS

Free drop-off preschool playgroups for children 3 or 4 years old who are not yet 4K eligible. Children do not need to be toilet trained to attend any program.

The registration form will open on 8/1/25 for the 2025-2026 School Year!
