InDeed.com

InDeed is another great website to use when looking for a job.  I like InDeed for three reasons.

  1. You can pick full-time vs part-time
  2. You can set a distance from your home or school to search
  3. You can access InDeed using your school email address
What you want to do is
  1. Go to the website linked in the button above and also LINKED HERE
  2. Set the location to Sun Prairie or where you live
  3. Set the distance (might currently be "within 35 miles" to a distance you are willing to travel.  I normally recommend 10 or 15 miles as a max.
  4. Select the Job Type as "Part Time"
  5. Add a key work for the type if job you are looking for.
  6. See what types of jobs come up for you to apply for.

Job Center
of Wisconsin

Job Center of Wisconsin is an amazing resource for jobs, resume writing, and many other things.  The two problems with the Job Center of Wisconsin is that you need to enter your Social Security Number, which we are not comfortable asking you to do, and they track and reach out to you on a regular basis.  But it is a great website to search for jobs.

What you want to do is:
  1. Go to the website linked in the button above and also LINKED HERE

  2. Do a Quick Job Search by entering a job title and your zip code.

  3. Click right away on "New Search".

  4. Click on "Advanced Search"

  5. You can now search by keyword, Location (Zip Code is recommended), enter the zip code 53590, select a  Within distance (10 miles is recommended), and Work Week of Full Time or Part Time (Part Time is recommended).

  6. When you find a job you are interested in you can do three things

    1. Create an account (not recommended)

    2. Search for the company online and see if the job is posted on their website

    3. Search for the company online and see if you can call them for more details

    4. Email Mr. Granberg at gfgranb@sunprairieschools.org and let him know what job you are looking for (title of the position and name of the company) and he will email you more details.

Remember the disclaimer above!  Don't share private information without research and talking with a trusted adult.

Other Ways to Find Jobs:
Grow Your Circle of Career Connections

Networking isn't just about meeting people; it's about building relationships that can lead to awesome opportunities. Whether you're at a career fair, chatting with professionals, or boosting your online presence, these networking tips will help you make cool connections and shine in your job search.

Here are three ways to Grow Your Career Connections

Talk to Adults your Know: Unlocking Career Conversations

Adults you know can be your secret weapon in exploring careers. These can be anyone from your parents, family members, and family friends to teachers, mentors, and leaders in your community.

  1. Casual Chats: Start by casually chatting with your parents or caregivers about what interests you in terms of careers. They might know someone who does what you love and can introduce you or arrange cool opportunities like job shadowing or chats with professionals.
  2. Expand Your Circle: Don't stop at your parents. Talk to other adults you trust, like family friends or teachers, about what you're curious about career-wise. They might surprise you with awesome connections or stories about their own journeys.
  3. Ask Away: Don't be shy about asking questions! Adults love sharing what they know and giving advice. They can tell you about their jobs, how they got there, and what they love about what they do.

Talking to adults you know can make career stuff feel less scary and more exciting. Plus, you never know where a simple chat can lead!

Talk to Teachers: Your Career Guides at School

Your teachers are not just there to teach—they're also your secret career helpers right in school! Whether it's your favorite subject teacher, a cool counselor, or that mentor you trust, these educators can make exploring careers feel like a breeze.

  1. Chit-Chat in Class: Start by casually chatting with your teachers during breaks or after class. Tell them what careers you're curious about and ask if they know anyone in those fields or have cool tips to share.
  2. Office Hangouts: Make use of teacher office hours to dive deeper into career talks. They love it when students are curious about their futures and can connect you with real pros or suggest awesome resources.
  3. Advice Galore: Don't be shy to ask for advice. Teachers have seen lots of students like you figuring out what they want to do and can give you awesome tips and support.

Talking to teachers about careers can be as easy as raising your hand in class!

Do Job Shadows: Take a Sneak Peek into Your Dream Job

Ever wondered what it's really like to do your dream job? Job shadows let you step into that world for a day—no strings attached. Here's how to make it happen:

  1. Choose Your Adventure: Pick a job or industry that gets you excited. Whether it's designing video games, helping animals, or making delicious food, there's a job shadow waiting for you!
  2. Talk to Your School Sidekicks: Chat with your teachers or counselor about setting up a job shadow. They've got the inside scoop and can make magic happen.
  3. Jump In and Explore: Spend a day shadowing someone awesome in your dream job. Ask questions, check out cool tools, and see if it's as awesome as you imagined (or even better)!

Job shadows are like super fun sneak peeks into your future career. You got this!
